Feeding on Demand

Because he did so well with the feeding yesterday, meaning no puking or diarrhea, they are taking him off of IV food except lipids (fats). In addition, he's allowed to eat as much as he'll take. We are a little worried about his IJ line (aka central line) infecting because it has been there for over a week and the risk of infection increases after 6-7 days. If he does well today, they will take him off of the IV completely and we won't need to put a new one in tomorrow.

He is pulling on his IJ line all day which is scary because he's definitely capable of pulling it right out, even though it is stitched in. GI says that we can try breast milk next week. Also, Debby has pumped so much breast milk we need to take some home today. BTW, Debby has been amazing with the pumping. She's religiously pumped every 3-4 hours the whole time we have been here, including when it wasn't clear what his future was and also when it wasn't clear that he would be able to take breast milk. Evidently, a lot of moms give it up under this amount of stress.

I'm trying to get everyone on some kind of schedule so we can get some work done. But it's hard and the close quarters and little sleep is starting to wear everyone down.

There's a chance we will be out of here on Friday. Let's hope.
