Wednesday Posting by Email

Dear All -
Today started off terrible actually. He lost a lot of weight (down to 7 lbs 11 ozs) and wasn't responding to much at all. Neurological stuff was being tossed around. You couldn't help but think the worst. He looked like a sickly newborn.
Pediatric Nepherologists, Neurologists, Gastro-Entomologists and Endocrinologists all came and went. In the end, Nephorology and Gastro decided that he was "pre-renal" and to administer a bag of fluids (not a drip) to rehydrate him. Once they started this IV bag, he really came back to life, his color improved and he was much more responsive and alert. It's really a big deal as the doctors and specialized nurses hovered around him for several hours while they administered this bag in case he went into cardiac arrest. They told us they were moving him into the ICU. (We even started packing up our room) Now, he's stable, still receiving fluids and they've decided to keep him in our current room - which is really good on multiple levels.
He's looking a lot better now but we can't feed him for the night and supposedly he's going to be really cranky throughout the night. Tomorrow, he will start a repair process that will include lactose free formula and IV fluids to get his GI tract working again.
We're not out of the woods yet but it definitely feels like this bag is helping and we're crossing our fingers that this is working.
Thanks for all the support. We had a bunch of visitors today and different people helping us. We got our car out of the parking lot at the pediatrician's office where we went last Thursday for a basic visit, Debby finally got a hairdryer and I'm on the net. Debby's mom is here and my mom is flying up again to provide the support we need.
Much Love,
JZ, DZ and zz
